I saw an annoying commercial today for The Quickie, and they kept saying, "The new book by James Patterson." They never onced mentioned he is the co-author with another person(a person I suspect actually wrote the book in Patterson's style and the publisher uses Patterson's brand name to sell the thing). I'd be upset if I was the other writer and didn't even get mentioned.

The other author probably gets paid big money by Patterson and publishers not to get upset. I didn't mind this with the Animorph books, because they were short young teen reads. But NYTimes bestsellers should be authentic. Commercials are my number one reason for keeping the TV off as much as possible. If I see a real bad commericial (cell phone or viagra mainly) I turn it as quick as possible.

I saw that lame commercial as well. I can't think of any other time a book was advertised in that way? Though I'm sure it happens. Probably mostly on W.E.

Actually, his co-writer is a guy who was really struggling to make a living as a writer (he used to work as a doorman), and Patterson helped him out. I'm sure he's getting paid very well for his ghostwriting.

As a struggling writer myself, I understand the appeal of finally getting PAID some decent money for my work. However, I don't personally think I could do something like this, something where I tried to imitate another writer's style and then he got all the attention and credit. That's just me though.
