When I was 10 or 11 my parents didn't care if I watched violent or scary movies, but I don't know if I'd want my kids to watch those kind of movies at that age, even though I did. Well, they're only 6 and 4 now, so maybe when they're 11 I'll feel differently. But as of now, I feel that 11 is kinda young

Well thank you guys for all your info! I didn't encounter DK until I was 15 and the first of his books that I read was an old one "The Vision." I was a little freaked out by that book, but then I read "Watchers" and I just got hooked on DK. I'm reading "The Door to December" right now, and as with all his other books I can't put it down.

THE VISION, imo, and I have said this before...is DK's attempt at writing a pornographic story. That is one I won't let my kid read until he is 30 yrs old...lol.

When I was young my parents let me watch just about anything. My favorite movie when I was young was Rocky Horror Picture Show. I now have 2 young kids and I often times remind myself that when you are young most things that are truly inappropriate for you tend to go right over your head. Come on have you ever watched a bugs bunny cartoon that you saw as a kid with different eyes as an adult? I have drawn the line at south park and family guy. But as for most sexual content, as well as violence it is more funny to my kids than anything. It is not a reality in the world they live in yet. We will see if they grow up to be terrors!!! Oh and plus I listen to Dean Koontz audio books when I clean my house, I have been a bit wary when they hear some of the really explicit love scenes, but they bearly notice. When they do they just laugh at the words used. They don't get most sexual words yet. Also I have never hear them talking about locking people in basements, or rape, or making art out of dead bodies, or any of that stuff. They have though talked about how Odd can see ghosts and has a ghost dog, and how spaceships made it rain and terraformed the earth and most people died. So anyhow I will end my examples, but I think my point is valid that they are not likely to learn anything bad from a book unless they have already been exposed to it in another form. |

withpatience you are probably right. I have nothing against Bugs Bunny though. Have you seen what kind of cartoons are on cartoon network now? My boys watch them, but I wish they'd watch Bugs Bunny instead. I don't even thing it's on TV anymore. What IS still on TV though is Tom and Jerry, the original ones from 50 years ago. They absolutely love those cartoons!
