If it was up to me I would abolish welfare as a whole. We should have staples stores (not the office supply centers) that provide necessities such as toilet paper, food, tooth brushes, etc. These would NOT be top of the line products, but bottom of the barrel. They would be available to everyone regardless of income. The centers would not be discreet, so people would not want to go to them. If they had no other choice or wanted to, they could go in and get what they needed. It would encourage people to earn their living, as I and many others have to. I am so sick of supporting others. I don't have kids for many reasons, one of them being that I can't afford them. Yet I still have to pay because others squeeze out puppies and can't support them!

i think it's a little more complicated than people just working for a living or not. yes there are plenty of people that milk the system but there are a lot more of them that have genuine problems that prevent them from being fully functional members of society. I forget the exact percentage but I know it's over 65% of homeless people have diagnosable mental disorders. I mean the major psychotic disorders like schizophrenia, that simply can't be coped with if you don't have meds or some kind of treatment. not everyone can just pick up an earn a living whenever they want to.

i can vouch for that. i worked for 15 years for civil service before i had to go out on disability. it was not something i planned , expected, or wanted, but sometimes things happen in life that are out of your control.

being retired at such an early age was not in my future, but i'm trying to make the best of it.........such is life.

Put a fairing on and maybe a set of leather saddle bags and you'll say "Life is hard but it's good".

same here. i worked for 18 years and paid into social security and all that government stuff but my real problem is these people on welfare that dont need it. and when i had to fight for two years to get the help i needed and deserved when i lost my eyesight, and to be told by a state rep that i can go find a job while being blind so therefore i didnt need disability was wrong. all the while, i sat here and watched a neighbor of ours collect welfare, food stamps, medicare, and whatever government subsidized program she could get and she and her boyfriend didnt need it, plus they both worked jobs under the table so that they would still qualify for the government help. that p**sed me off big time. if you want help, you should have to be medically diagnosed with a problem the physically prevents you from working. and to me back problems dont count. neither does drug or alcohol problems cuz those are the persons own fault.
