Some of my favorite discussions about Buffy are about some of the meaning behind them. The analogies, references, symbolism, ties to literature, that sort of junk.

Like the fact that Angel literally turns into a monster after Buffy has sex with them is reflective of what girls seem to think after having sex with a NORMAL guy for the first time.

Or importance and symbolic nature of names. Mrs. Calendar: Her days are numbered. Faith: she has none in anyone. Adam: the end of humanity.

Why must Buffy always quip before she kills someone? Is it because, like Willow says, it throws the badguys off their game? Or is it something more than that, do her words actually weaken the badguys? Is it empowering for her to speak like that, just as words are literally powerful in Willow's case: most of her spells require speaking of some sort.

Obviously, those aren't the only examples of stuff that might be considered on the deeper end.

But why's no one discussing them?

Feel free to take the oportunity to reflect on a few things like that in this thread. Maybe add a few of your own original deep thoughts about Buffy.

I think it's similar to some of DK's books. Making fun of evil diminishes its power over us. Buffy uses her quips as weapons, yes, but also to remind herself that she is the one with the power, not the demons.
